IT Support in Cwmbran

Managed IT support for Cwmbran businesses, from industrial units on the estates to offices in the town centre.

Cwmbran

IT support for Cwmbran’s estates and town centre

Yes, we provide managed IT support for businesses in Cwmbran. Our office is on the Newport side of Cardiff, about 15 miles away, or roughly 25 minutes by road when the traffic behaves. Onsite visits are included in the monthly fee, and most problems are fixed remotely before anyone needs to travel.

Cwmbran was designated in 1949 as the first new town in Wales, and it still works like a planned town: shops and offices in the centre, and businesses spread across purpose-built industrial estates such as Springvale and Llantarnam. Plenty of Cwmbran firms run an office and a workshop or warehouse under one roof, so their IT has to work on the shop floor as well as at a desk.

One fixed fee per user covers unlimited support, monitoring, daily backups and security, from a small team who know your staff by name.

Older units

Networks in units built for factories

Many of Cwmbran’s industrial units are older than they look. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales records that Springvale was built by the Cwmbran Development Corporation to attract manufacturing to the town. Its first phase of 47 advance factory units was approved in 1975, and more followed until the corporation was wound up in 1988.

Units like these were designed for machinery, not networks. The cabling has often been extended bit by bit over the years, the Wi-Fi was added as an afterthought, and the switch sits in a cupboard nobody quite remembers. We start by mapping what’s there, then fix what matters: reliable cabling to the desks and machines that need it, access points that reach the warehouse, and a network that keeps visitors’ phones and smart devices away from your business systems.

New equipment and cabling are quoted before anything is ordered. See our network and Wi-Fi support for how we work.

Working on site

A workforce that’s mostly on site

Fewer people in Torfaen work from home than in Cardiff, Newport or Monmouthshire. In the 2021 Census, 22.3% of employed Torfaen residents worked mainly at or from home, below the Wales figure of 25.6% and well below Cardiff’s 36.1%, and 61.9% drove to work.

So for most Cwmbran firms the priority isn’t home working. It’s the building: shared PCs that start every morning, printers that print, phones that ring through to the right person, and an internet connection that doesn’t take the whole site down when it fails. We put the effort where your people are, with separate logins on shared machines, monitoring that flags a failing disk before it stops someone working, and support for your business phone system. The office staff who do work from home get the same protection on their laptops.

Engineering and manufacturing firms have particular needs, from large CAD files to machine PCs that can’t be updated on a whim. Our page on IT support for engineering firms goes into those.

Supply chains

When a customer asks about security

If you make parts, supply a larger manufacturer or tender for public sector work, someone will ask about your cyber security sooner or later, usually in a supplier questionnaire. Holding Cyber Essentials gives you a clear, checkable answer. Central government’s procurement guidance, PPN 014, names it as the quickest way for a supplier that handles personal data to show it meets the security requirements.

We keep every system we manage to the Cyber Essentials standard, so for our clients the certificate is mostly paperwork. For a business that’s new to us, we check your systems against the scheme, fix what would fail and help you complete the assessment, from £295 + VAT plus the IASME fee. Every business we’ve prepared has passed. How Cyber Essentials works.

Moving premises

Growing into a bigger unit

With estates all around the town, a Cwmbran business that outgrows its unit can often move a mile down the road rather than across the county. The IT is what makes or breaks moving day. A new business broadband line can take weeks to install, so order it as soon as you know the address, and have the cabling, Wi-Fi and phones planned before the vans arrive.

We plan and run office and unit moves, quoted separately from the monthly fee, so your team can log on and take calls on the first morning in the new place.

Torfaen

Local help beyond IT

Torfaen County Borough Council runs Business Direct Torfaen, which handles business enquiries about council services and points you to wider support and advice. It also runs Torfaen Business Voice, a business club that has been going for more than 20 years and meets quarterly at the Parkway Hotel & Spa in Cwmbran, with guest speakers and news of training and funding.

Torfaen is also one of the ten councils in the Cardiff Capital Region, which invests in digital and physical infrastructure across South East Wales. None of that replaces getting your own IT right, but it’s worth knowing who to ask when you’re planning a move or an investment.

What the monthly fee covers

  • Unlimited support by phone, remotely and onsite
  • Urgent problems typically picked up straight away, backed by our SLA
  • Daily backups and a disaster recovery plan, monitored by our team
  • Anti-virus, anti-spam and multi-factor authentication on every account and device

Microsoft 365 licences, new hardware and projects are extra, and Evergreen IT can spread the cost of new equipment through leasing. See full pricing.

Switching provider

Unhappy with your current support?

The usual reasons people move to us are slow answers, a different engineer every time, or a contract that never seems to cover the thing that’s broken. Switching usually takes one email from you. We assess your systems for free, agree a plan and handle the handover with your current provider. See how switching works.

Trying us out

A review period, not a leap of faith

Our agreement includes a no-obligation review period, so you can see how we handle your problems before you commit for the longer term. If we aren’t the right fit for your business, we’d rather say so at the start.

Questions

IT support in Cwmbran: FAQs

Our unit is decades old. Will the network need replacing?

Not necessarily. Old cabling often works fine once it’s tested and labelled. We map what you have, replace only what’s failing or too slow, and add access points where the Wi-Fi doesn’t reach. You get a quote before any equipment is ordered.

Most of our staff work on site. What should we prioritise?

The things everyone shares: a network that reaches the whole building, shared PCs with separate logins, printers, phones and a backup internet connection if a line fault would stop you working. Then the basics on every device, including multi-factor authentication and daily backups.

Can you help us move to a bigger unit in Cwmbran?

Yes. We plan the broadband order, cabling, Wi-Fi and phones with you, then move and reconnect everything so your team can work on day one. Moves are quoted separately from the monthly support fee.

Where can a Cwmbran business get council support?

Business Direct Torfaen is the council’s route for business enquiries, and Torfaen Business Voice is its business club, meeting quarterly in Cwmbran. For IT itself, we’re happy to look at your systems and give you a fixed quote.
